The Role: Architect of 3D Geometric Frameworks:
We are seeking a Junior Geoscientific Modeller who is passionate about 3D spatial problems and computational geometry.
In this role, you will be the bridge between abstract data and physical reality. You don’t need to be a geologist to excel here—we provide the domain expertise. What we need is a sharp mind to help build the computational architecture of the subsurface. You will work within our multidisciplinary R&D team to translate complex spatial concepts into robust, data-driven 3D models using a modern, open-source Python stack.
Key Responsibilities:
- 3D Geometric Modelling: Utilize LoopStructural and GemPy to construct intricate 3D volumes, managing the complex interactions of layers and surfaces in digital space.
- Data Translation & Meshing: Develop the workflows to convert 3D structural meshes into discretized grids (voxels) optimized for high-performance geophysical simulations.
- Stochastic Workflow Development: Help build automated pipelines that generate hundreds of potential “realizations” to quantify and manage geological uncertainty.
- High-End Visualization: Use PyVista or VTK to create high-fidelity 3D visualizations, ensuring the topological integrity and “physicality” of our models.
- System Optimization: Assist in scaling our geometry engine using Dask or PyTensor to handle massive regional-scale datasets with efficiency.
Candidate Requirements:
Mandatory Eligibility (IRAP YEP):
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the position.
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada.
- A graduate of a post-secondary institution (degree/diploma).
Essential Skills:
- Academic Background: A strong foundation in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Geoscience, Geomatics, or Engineering.
- Scientific Python: Proficiency with the standard stack (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy). You should enjoy writing clean, modular, and maintainable code.
- 3D Spatial Intelligence: An intuitive grasp of 3D geometry, coordinate transforms, and vector calculus.
- Algorithmic Thinking: A drive to solve spatial logic puzzles and optimize how complex physical shapes are represented in a digital environment.
Desirable Skills:
- A background or personal interest in Geology or Earth Sciences is highly valued but not a prerequisite.
- Experience with Git and GitHub for collaborative software development.
- Familiarity with 3D modelling, or computer graphics principles.
